Joe Heller Joins Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau as Vice President of Marketing and Communications

After a nationwide search, the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau (PHLCVB) today announced that Joe Heller will join the organization as the new Vice President of Marketing and Communications. In this role, Heller will oversee the team responsible for supporting the positioning and marketing of Philadelphia as a top U.S. destination for meetings, conventions, sporting events and overseas leisure travel. 

The search was conducted by Grace Blue, a national marketing and communications recruitment firm. In this role, Heller will be charged with strategically guiding the PHLCVB's marketing efforts, including the Frankly Philadelphia campaign, as well as public relations, content, social media and digital programming. The marketing and communications team also develops integrated marketing and communications plans for the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Heller has more than 15 years of marketing and communications experience, largely in professional sports and most recently served as the Vice President of Brand Strategy and Creative Content for the Philadelphia Flyers. During his nine seasons with the team, he also served as the Vice President of Marketing and Communications, and led the Flyers mascot project resulting in the creation of “Gritty”—sparking national and international media interest and propelling the Flyers brand recognition to new heights. Additionally with the Flyers, Heller oversaw the consolidated brand messaging for the Philadelphia Flyers (NHL), Philadelphia Wings (NLL) and Wells Fargo Center, in conjunction with venue's $265 million “Transformation 2020” renovation project.

Prior to the Philadelphia Flyers, Heller served one season as the director of marketing and communications for New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, NJ, and was the manager of communications for two NASCAR-sanctioned facilities; Dover International Speedway in Dover, Del., and Nashville Superspeedway in Lebanon, Tenn.

A native of Philadelphia and graduate of Temple University's School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management, he resides in Havertown, Pa. with his wife, Jenny, and children Scott and Juliette.
