Philadelphia, PA- September 15, 2016 - On September 14 at the National Constitution Center, PHL Life Sciences, a division of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau (PHLCVB), presented its Ultimate Solution Award to the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and its CEO Margaret Foti, Ph.D., MD (hc). The award is given annually to an individual or organization who has raised Philadelphia's profile as a life sciences meeting and convention destination. The PHLCVB currently has 378 life sciences related meetings & conventions booked for the future and the life sciences industry accounts for more than 50 percent of the bookings at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Copa America Centenario Soccer Tournament to Bring More Than 75,000 Fans to Philadelphia

The Copa America Centenario soccer tournament kicked off in the U.S. on Friday and will take place across 10 venues in the United States throughout the month of June. Philadelphia will host three first round match-ups during the historic tournament at Lincoln Financial Field including the Uruguay vs. Venezuela on Thursday, June 9, United States vs. Paraguay on Saturday, June 11 and Chile vs. Panama on Tuesday, June 14. The games are expected to draw more than 75,000 fans to the city over those three days, generating an economic impact of $41 million and impacting occupancy at area hotels. According to data from TravelClick, June 9, 11 and 14, are strong for Center City hotels, with all three days currently sitting above 90% occupancy. This is in large part due to the number of rooms the athletes, organizers, media, sponsors and fans are occupying, in addition to two conventions in town.

Philadelphia will welcome the 9th World Congress for NeuroRehabilitation (WCNR), at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown from May 10-13, 2016. This year's theme, “From Science to Society,” will cover inspiring scientific and clinical advances in neurorehabilitation and their impact on patient outcome and integration in society. Villanova Men's Basketball Team Announced as 2016 John Wanamaker Athletic Award Winners

On June 22, the Villanova University's Men's Basketball Team will receive the 2016 John Wanamaker Athletic Award during a ceremony and luncheon at the Crystal Tea Room in Philadelphia. Long before Kris Jenkins' buzzer beater hit the bottom of the net in the title game, the city of Philadelphia had become awash in Villanova Wildcat fever. On April 4, they cemented their win against the highly touted Tar Heels of the University of North Carolina, earning the title of 2016 NCAA National Champions and bringing Villanova its first basketball championship since 1985.
